This is the question that most of my clients ask me sometime during our first few sessions. You see they come to me seeking support and guidance to achieve health goals. In the process of evaluating their needs and discussing how we can collaborate, we usually agree that meal planning would be helpful.
The natural evolution of the conversation takes us to the familiar place of a burned out woman who has grown tired of putting her needs last. At the top of this unmet needs list is her relationship with food and cooking. For most busy families, food is something that we provide out of obligation, but rarely from a place of serving our bodies, and as a source of nourishment. I get the sense that most of us are so busy running that we have lost the ability to slow down and reconnect with our body rhythms.
I remember the days when my children were young, and the monumental feat of getting dinner on the table. A commitment that my husband and I made was that we would eat together more nights than not at home over a home cooked meal. This was a task that I felt was within my capabilities due to the fact that I am a professional Chef and a Certified Health Coach, cooking is one of my love languages.
Still, I struggled to meet this goal on many nights. The struggle that I faced was an internal battle of meals that were not creative enough, not varied enough, and not instagram worthy. See my bar was and is still high. Having prepared meals in 4 and 5 star resorts, I compared my family meals to these gourmet meals.
Not only was that unfair to myself, it was a warped view of what I was providing. I was providing healthy, home cooked meals served every night at 5:30 PM. It was not only the food that mattered, it was the routine of having dinner together every night at the same time. Our table became the place where we shared our worries, joys, and watched our children blossom. This was the purpose of the original goal.
Creating family meal time is so critical to families, that there have been many studies that cite it as one of the most impactful things that you can do as a family. So, it is with that revelation that I am excited to help your family establish this routine. Starting in January, I will be offering Personal Chef services. I will offer a variety of packages, all designed to ease your load and create space for your family to commune together at the end of the day. Please keep an eye on my page for pricing and package information, but if you want to get on the waitlist, please reach out.
